32hrs+ per week Sewing position at a Cut & Sew workshop based in LONGVILLE, MINNESOTA. Please only apply if you're near Longville (Backus Wabedo Hackensack Pine River etc....), it’s tough to get up here in winter from further out. Our workshop is small & based out of the lower level of our home + garage.
This position is longterm. Our business has been growing fast and we just keep needing more help! There is potential to expand your hours as our volume continues to increase.
THE JOB:
Sewing fabric products with zippers on an industrial sewing machine. Industrial sewing skills are plus, but we can train the right candidate for this position. The main thing is you need to have good hand + eye coordination and SPEED. Production sewing is more fast paced than home sewing so hitting numbers is important. Industrial machines run at about 5-10x the speed of a home sewing machine.
PRODUCTION WORK IS BORING and REPETITIVE. The workshop is pretty quiet because we’re all focused on individual work (sewing, cutting, hardware setting etc..) + have noise cancelling headphones in. This position is not a good fit for someone who thrives in super sociable environments (we don’t want a social butterfly to feel sad/lonely).
Great for an introvert who doesn’t mind repetitive work + needs a flexible part time schedule + likes the quiet and wants to listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks all day
REQUIREMENTS:
1. You will need good attention to detail + sharp eyes.
2. Able to maintain a good pace! You will need good hand eye coordination. If you’ve worked in fast paced food service, production, or manufacturing this will be easy for you, we also find that Gamers often do really well at sewing.
3. Not for sensitive hands (prior repetitive use injuries/carpal tunnel/arthritis). We have done this job ourselves for over 12 years and it’s never caused any issues, but if you already have sensitive hands this very hands-on job will not be a good fit for you.
4. Must be ok with an anxious mini poodle who hangs out in the workshop. He loves new people once he gets to know them :)
5. This workshop is coconut free due to an airborne anaphylactic coconut allergy, no personal care products (lotion, perfume, added fragrance etc...) or food, beverages etc... containing coconut can be brought into the workshop.
The workshop is also fragrance free and perfume use is not allowed (scented personal care/skincare is fine etc...we just find perfume can cling to products manufactured on-site). All hand soaps and cleaning supplies in the workshop are hypoallergenic and fragrance free.
THE PAY:
Starting pay is $20/hr. We have a 1 month probation period where you will be training to hit production numbers. Increased pay is highly dependent on speed or cross training on other stations. Pay scale goes up to $24/hr. Longterm there will be optional cross training of other tasks around the workshop.
BENEFITS:
This PT job provides PTO (1hr for every 30hrs worked + after passing the 1st month of probation you automatically get 3 days of PTO added), you will qualify for Minnesota Paid Leave based on hours worked for other types of leave (family, health etc…). We are too small to be able to offer health insurance, but can help you enroll in a MNsure plan if needed.
SCHEDULING:
We’ll work with you to figure out a schedule. We operate 7 days a week and you can choose your own schedule to fit the hours. If you want to work 5 short days or 3 longer ones, it's totally up to you! You can also change your schedule as needed. As long as the work gets done, we’re pretty flexible schedule-wise. Right now we need 32hrs in sewing, but if we get busier we can open more hours for you! Now through December is our busiest season, so there will likely be more hours available. Pay increases with each new production station you learn.
Click on the reply button to send us an email. Feel free to include a resume, or just a blurb about yourself-nothing fancy! We'll be scheduling working interviews to determine if this position is a good fit. Ideally we are hoping to find someone by mid June. We're out in the boonies so sometimes we have to leave a listing up for a while to find the right candidate.
