The engine was essentially rebuilt a few years ago and it runs strong. The factory AFD/DOD system was professionally deleted at that time, which is a known reliability improvement on these engines. The original AFD/DOD system is known to cause lifter issues, which this truck experienced before the rebuild. Deleting the system prevents that problem from occurring again and improves long-term reliability.
It also has a brand new premium Interstate AGM battery just installed. AGM batteries are designed for higher power demands and offer longer life than conventional batteries, often lasting up to twice as long.
This Avalanche is not perfect. It has some rust and some damage to the front left quarter panel, including the headlight casing, although all lights still work. It is showing its age cosmetically, but it has been dependable and runs well.
